Residents of Shibis District, one of Mogadishu’s oldest neighbourhoods have welcomed the partnership extended by the Somali Police Force and AMISOM Police, in a community policing drive extended to their community today. At least 200 people turned up for the meeting led by the District Commissioner Ahmed Mumin Mohamed.

This is part of the on-going campaign by the SPF and AMISOM Police, to build partnerships with communities, aimed at crime prevention, fast reporting of cases and generally enhancing security.

The meeting attracted diverse groups of people including women, youth, members of the business community and traditional elders, among others.

Speaking during the meeting the District Commissioner said, “the message to the community has been very clear, they need to work more closely with the Police; 24 hours a day. To achieve this, the community needs awareness on the work of the Police and other security agencies, for the security in Mogadishu to be enhanced”.

He appealed for cooperation from the residents, including provision of timely information on any suspicious elements in their community.

The Shibisi District Police Chief Nor Hassan Ali said the meeting was crucial to enhance the good relationship between them and the residents.

“Today, we have hosted our brothers from AMISOM and the discussion was about cooperation between the Police and the community. This supports what we have been doing; there is no safer place than Shibis in the Banadir Region,” he said.

The community engagement drive led by AMISOM Police is on-going through the various districts of Mogadishu.
