Descrition: Jan Tönsmann’s 2010 “fast-forward” professional showreel, featuring work in which he was an active participant, either as a Senior Compositor, Sequence or VFX Supervisor over 15 years.

A solutions architect, conceptualist, imagineer, developer, and finishing artist, his work encompasses the creative, to pre-production planning, on set supervision, and post-production realization and client finishing, working at his best on the cutting edge of technology with experienced teams within established companies, and bridging various disciplines intuitively.

A project creative and technical consultant, finishing Flame artist, experienced Shake compositor and After Effects specialist, he’s available for hire on a variety of challenging visual projects, from media campaigns, to feature films, “special” and extremely large format productions, which ideally blend the creative and technical processes in a new way forward.

This showreel features work produced at various companies for clients such as Lamborghini, Scarlet, Greenpeace, Matt Pokora/EMI, Audi R8, Nederland 3, McDonalds, ProSieben, Vodafone, among others, and features compositing and sequence supervising feature film work produced for movies such as Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, Harry Potter And The Prizoner Of Azkaban, and Troy, amongst others.

Not all of his work features in this Showreel compilation, which is a flash that spans almost 14 years. A/B clips of most of these shots don’t exist, so it’s difficult to tell exactly how much work it took to create most of these images. In fact, some of these shots couldn’t be pulled apart for an A/B comparison, such as the long feature film sequences, as there was no time to, or manner to physically do so.

A lot of this material was created from nothing! (Mostly created or composited from numerous elements).

It takes a team of great, dedicated artists to create and finish this work. There are too many people to credit here, along with individual companies Jan’s had the privilege of working for over the years.

This showreel features the track “Take Me Into Your Skin” by Trentemoller.

Further examples of his recent work:

2009 – Jan was involved for several months in initial consultations for an unusual and very high-resolution project, the Saudi Arabia pavilion, to be built for the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China, featuring the world’s largest single projection screen composed of 20+ HD projections. As a consultant for Skyskan in Munich, Germany, and GPD in Sevilla, Spain, he also traveled to Los Angeles, USA, on behalf of the clients to meet with large format production and service providers, and evaluate possible working solutions.

His report was used as the basis of evaluating the actual production, technical, and budgeting requirements, for creating and producing content for such a large screen, and to give the client a clear direction in how to realize their vision. Inside the pavilion, as it has now been completed, the actual enormous featured screen can be seen in these YouTube clips:

2008 – Online for Grant Wakefield’s “Ancient Skies” trailer in 4K*4K planetarium format:

2008 – Flame online for Chevrolet Captiva’s European campaign:
