STORY
AMISOM Burundi Defence Forces in Kismayo together with the Somali National Army yesterday conducted a foot patrol in the town’s outskirts aimed at boosting the security of the area. The operation conducted in Afmado district targeted all vehicles coming into town.

The Burundian troops also engaged in community engagement projects aimed at boosting relations between AMISOM and the local population they serve.

Among these activities is the distribution of gallons of clean water to vulnerable members of the society especially women and children. They also offer free medical care to the community members.

Ambiya Nure Ibrahim, a member of the community said, “We are the neighbors to the Burundian soldiers in Kismayo. They give this clean water to every family close to them here, so we say to them thank you”.

AMISOM BNDF Officer, Major Ndayisenga Misericorde said access to clean water and basic health care facilities are some of the major challenges the community faces, prompting the assistance from the troops.

“We supply water to our neighbors, the people that lack water. We supply about fourteen gallons of water daily. We also provide medical care for the people near our bases; we treat them for different disease and refer the serious cases to the level II hospital”.
